Rob has over two decades experience working in the fields of innovation consultancy and grant writing. In his early career, Rob worked for a sector specific research centre, assuming responsibility for coordinating, writing, and negotiating large multi-partner research proposals for National and European funding programmes. Project participants spanned startups, SME industries, large enterprises, research centres, universities, and industry associations and groupings. 

In 2006 Rob moved to a multinational research centre, focusing on delivery of a combined innovation consultancy and grant writing service offering. Here Rob worked with organisations to help them identify unmet market needs, conceive and develop novel solutions, define robust business cases and route-to-market strategies, develop R&D roadmaps, mobilise necessary development and value-chain partnerships, and acquire grant funding to support development. Many of these projects adopted an open innovation strategy, working with leading European enterprises, research centres, and universities, to push the frontiers of science and technology, and develop truly innovative and disruptive solutions to grand societal challenges. 

During this period Rob developed a passion for the frameworks, methodologies, toolsets, and insights that underpin the innovation process. This led naturally to his next role focusing on consolidation of this learning into training and coaching programmes to support the company’s expanding network of research and industrial partners, and service university and research clients who sought to further develop their own innovation and grant writing skills and capabilities inhouse. These programmes comprised a combination of seminars, workshops, e-learning, toolsets, and coaching support. 

In 2014 Rob established Framework Innovation to support technology-based organisations in the conception, development, and commercialisation of disruptive solutions through the provision of innovation consultancy and grant writing services. Whilst working across a diversity of organisations, technologies, and markets; Rob has gained particular experience supporting start-ups from the health and life science sectors.
